Humming News is an independent online news publication and publishing house built on a simple idea: report one true, new fact a day, and don't pad it into a thousand-word mood piece. We file original stories instead of rewriting the same wire copy eleven times because most news optimizes for the spike, and we'd rather optimize for the hum.
What "the hum" means
Good reporting should hum: a low, constant signal underneath the noise, the thing still running after the day's outrage has burned off. Spikes are loud and forgettable. The hum is quiet, and it lasts. That principle drives every editorial decision we make.
What We Do
Humming News operates two connected arms:
- Newsroom — a small team files original, fact-checked stories. An editorial layer verifies every piece before it runs.
- Publications — the deeper work becomes longer pieces: explainers, investigations, and the occasional book-length project that didn’t fit anywhere else.
The split is deliberate. News is perishable most of what we file is dead within 48 hours, and that’s fine, that’s the job. Publications is the opposite: work we want findable in three years, not three hours. Roughly 90% of our output is the perishable kind by volume, but the durable 10% is what most readers remember us for.
